Here we are, mid-January. Gear Break this week hints that the industry might be undergoing a January thaw. New saddles from Fizik (not 3D printed) and PRO (3D printed), Cinelli’s bold leap to the UCI ProTeam level with their custom Aeroscoop (and Team Edition colorway), Miche’s debut into the world of carbon spokes with the Deva RD wheelset, and from SRAM new short cranks and aero brakes (but, really, all they do is slow you down!). If you are looking for a reason to get back on the road, this collection of high-performance gear is the perfect spark.
FIZIK R1 LIGHT RANGE
17% lighter, still 100% Fizik

Fizik has added 3 exciting stripped-back saddles as part of the new R1 light range. Their minimalist design means each saddle is roughly 17% lighter than the prior R1 range. Fizik has been at the forefront of saddle design for decades. The release and subsequent popularity of the original Arione even prompted the UCI to change its rules around saddle size. Fizik and the wider market have recently leaned into 3D printed saddles as the peak of innovation in the space. But, Fizik demonstrate with the new R1 light range that progress doesn’t need to come from a printer.
Alex Locatelli, Fizik Brand Manager, sez: “The R1 light range represents a combination of our leading performance technologies to make a new line of saddles that is perfect for any use case. With the R1 light range, we set out to offer high performance made traditionally, which combines decades of our experience in the saddle space.”

Engineered for low weight and high-performance riding, R1 Light architecture combines a carbon-reinforced nylon shell with ultra-stiff carbon rails for a responsive, lightweight platform. Raw EVA padding delivers low-profile, reactive cushioning that maintains comfort and support without sacrificing the ergonomic shape or increasing thickness. The result? The bare essentials: a minimal carbon structure with a bare EVA foam layer. Nothing you don’t need. A saddle that reduces weight without compromise – ideal for long, fast days on the saddle.
This new saddle architecture comes in three versions of existing saddles in the Fizik lineup. The R1 light platform is a new combination of Fiziks’ proven performance technologies. Fizik combined the rails, base, and padding from their current top-performing high-end ranges to make this new range.
TEMPO ALIANTE R1 LIGHT

First launched over two decades ago, the Aliante saddle took the cycling world by storm in 2003. It offered innovative design that prioritized rider comfort, so much so that it was even nicknamed le sofa by French riders. Many long-distance cyclists have favored the Aliante ever since. It is a lightweight endurance road saddle with a waved profile, built for lasting comfort. With new raw EVA foam padding, carbon rails, and a pressure-relieving cutout in the R1 configuration, Aliante is sure to keep rides smooth.
VENTO ARGO R1 LIGHT

Argo is Fizik’s most versatile saddle shape and each version suits different riding styles. As the racing option, Fizik engineered the Vent Argo Argo R1 Light to deliver a riding feel that suits race bikes with aggressive geometry. In the R1 Light configuration, the saddle uses lightweight raw EVA padding and carbon rails to increase its suitability for racing.
VENTO ANTARES R1 LIGHT

This saddle has appeared in nearly every Grand Tour of the past two decades. It has carried riders to top podium spots in the Tour de France, the Giro, and the Vuelta over and over again. It’s only getting better with age. The new R1 light Antares features a streamlined shape with a tapered nose-to-wing transition, paired with lightweight raw EVA padding and carbon rails to deliver a responsive ride in any competitive condition.

Miche Deva RD
Feel the formula
“Deva” is a Sanskrit word meaning “shining one” — a word that embodies harmony, balance, and the bond that connects sky and matter.
For Deva RD, this vision is concrete. Carbon is molded into essential profiles, giving life to Miche’s most aerodynamic and lightweight wheel yet, and the first with carbon spokes.

Deva RD is the ultimate expression of the Miche Formula, a method combining engineering, data analysis and outstanding cycling expertise. The project included 28 CFD simulations, wind tunnel tests and use of dedicated prototypes developed in collaboration with the Groupama–FDJ Cycling Team. There was a single goal: turn numbers and measurements into a tangible advantage.
The formula for performance
The new rim profile reduces turbulence and improves stability in crosswind conditions. The carbon spokes increase the stiffness-to-weight ratio and reduce rotating mass. The wheelset weighs 1305 g (52 mm rim profile). Two rim profile options will be available: 52 mm and 62 mm, allowing riders to choose between all-round efficiency and maximum aerodynamic performance for high-speed racing.

The updated spoke configuration and hub geometry ensure immediate power transfer and precise control.
Developed on the roads of the World Tour with input from Groupama–FDJ Cycling Team riders, Deva RD springs from the experience of those who live and measure speed every day, turning it into performance.
Ultra-lightweight carbon spoke system
For the first time in its history, Miche has adopted carbon spokes. This marks a significant technological step forward that unlocks a new level of lightness and stiffness.
Their aerodynamic geometry, with a 4×1 mm cross-section profile, works in seamless continuity with the rim due to the hidden nipples integrated directly into the rim itself. The elimination of exposed elements reduces turbulence in this area and helps optimise overall drag.
The wheels utilize a 14+7 spoke configuration on both the front and rear wheels, reduced from the traditional 24 spoke count. This delivers an ideal balance of weight, responsiveness, control, and steering precision. This was made possible by the exceptional stiffness of the carbon spokes, especially when considered in relation to their weight. All of this results in lower rotating mass, greater stability under lateral loads, and a more natural response to changes in pace.
Two color options

Midnight Black is the nocturnal essence of the DEVA universe: a deep, absolute black that absorbs light and defines every line with silent precision. Essential and rigorous, it is a presence that does not seek attention but naturally commands it.
Daylight Silver represents awakening: a luminous finish that captures light and reflects it back, alive and in constant motion. Bright, dynamic reflections enhance the wheel’s shapes, turning lightness into color and natural elegance.
DEVA RD made its official debut at the Santos Tour Down Under on January 16, bringing the new Miche Formula to the roads of the World Tour.
Availability & Pricing
The new DEVA RD wheels will be available through Miche’s network of authorized dealers starting in March 2026. Retail price: €3,200 (VAT included). For full details, please visit Miche.it.
Cinelli Aeroscoop Team Edition 2026
A pro contract is not required, but it helps

The 2026 season marks a major milestone for Cinelli. The Italian performance cycling brand is stepping up to the UCI ProTeam level for the first time. Cinelli will be supporting the newly named MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort Pro Team. Now entering its seventh consecutive season as technical sponsor, Cinelli will equip the team with a full fleet of high-performance race bikes.
Aero Performance Meets Cinelli Design
To mark the team’s elevation, riders will race on custom Team Edition Aeroscoop, which we previously featured in Gear Break, further customized for max performance and adorned with a distinctive livery. Designed with a focus on efficiency and speed, the Aeroscoop has earned a reputation as one of the most competitive aero road platforms in its class.
For 2026, Cinelli pairs that performance with a bold new aesthetic. The Team Edition colorway is inspired by an iconic Cinelli mountain bike of the past, known for its striking paintwork. The vivid pink contrast graphics originated from an unexpected moment in the paint process. When a decal carrier failed to peel away, a distinctive look indicative of Cinelli’s creativity emerged.

Alongside the Aeroscoop, riders will also have access to the Cinelli Pressure II, a race-proven all-rounder.
A Long-Standing Italian Partnership
Victor Luis, Chairman & CEO of Cinelli sez: “This season marks an important step for both Cinelli and the team as ambitions grow and we move up to ProTeam level. The Aeroscoop gives riders an extra weapon—combining top-level aerodynamic performance with a fresh, unmistakably Cinelli look. We’re proud to continue this long-standing partnership and to tell the team’s stories from the road in our own creative way.”
Antonio Bevilacqua, Team Manager of MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort Pro Team, sez:“Our partnership with Cinelli spans six years and is built on trust, continuous dialogue, and shared development. Together we have achieved more than 200 victories, including Filippo Baroncini’s World Championship title and Juan Ayuso’s Giro d’Italia Under 23 win. Today we begin a new chapter, strengthened by an even more solid relationship and a shared vision for the future.”

First appearance and availability
The MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort Pro Team Edition Aeroscoop will be on public display this weekend at Velofollies in Kortrijk, Belgium. Its race debut will come later this month. PRO Stealth 3D
Comfort Engineered for Performance
Comfort is key to cycling performance. Establishing the optimum position for yourself on the bike will empower you to ride further and faster by increasing your comfort and efficiency. Finding the right saddle for your unique anatomical features and riding style is a crucial part of achieving a good bike fit. The PRO Stealth 3D Saddle offers riders the benefits of increased comfort through 3 Mesh Zones of 3 distinct densities, while also encouraging the same aerodynamic position on the bike that you have come to expect from PRO’s Stealth Saddle range.

The new PRO Stealth 3D Saddle leverages advanced 3D printing technology to fine-tune rider comfort in a way traditional foam padding cannot. Developed using extensive pressure mapping data and test rider feedback, the saddle features three distinct Mesh Zones of varying densities:
High-density Nose: Provides maximum support for sit bones when tilted forward in an aggressive, aerodynamic position.
Lower-density Middle: Dissipates weight across a larger area to reduce “hot spots” when riding more upright.
Low-density Rear: Reduces overall weight while showcasing the intricate hexagonal cell design.
Beyond density mapping, the hexagonal cells are designed to individually and collectively absorb vibrations, significantly reducing road buzz and rider fatigue. This makes the saddle particularly well-suited for riders who frequently tackle cobbles or poorly maintained asphalt.

Construction & Specs
The saddle is built on a stiff carbon-reinforced base and features an anatomic cut-out to further relieve pressure. It is available in two tiers:
Team: Features lightweight carbon rails (from 224g).
Performance: Features durable INOX stainless steel rails (from 260g).
Both versions come in 142mm and 152mm widths and include a dimpled upper to keep the rider securely in place during high-intensity efforts.
